Vision
To commission and develop the highest quality drug and alcohol treatment and support services which meet local needs and national expectations.
Mission
- To ensure that national, drug and alcohol treatment targets are met.
- To ensure that offenders whose criminal behaviour is drug-related, are identified and supported into treatment
- To support and develop services to tackle alcohol-related health and community safety issues
- To work with other agencies, through the Safer Sandwell Strategic Plan to address community concerns
- To raise awareness of drug and alcohol issues through training, communications and campaigns
- To work with partners and stakeholders in reducing harm related to drug-misuse
- To involve people who use services in the development of drug and alcohol services and policies

Sandwell DAAT:
- Ensures that, national, drug and alcohol treatment agency targets are met around getting drug/alcohol users into appropriate treatment by purchasing and performance managing services
- Ensures, through the Drug Intervention Programme (DIP) and drug testing by the Police, that offenders whose criminal behaviour is drug-related, are identified and supported into treatment
- Supports and develops services to tackle alcohol-related, town centre violence, underage drinking and poor health and develop local alcohol strategy
- Works with Sandwell’s the Council’s Towns & Neighbourhoods Unit which works across Sandwell’s six towns and other agencies, through the Safer Sandwell Strategic Plan, to address community concerns
- Raises awareness of drug and alcohol issues through training, communications and campaigns, needs analysis and community consultation
The Government’s National Drugs Strategy (2008 – 18)
The key aims of the new strategy (“Drugs: protecting families and communities”) are, over the next 10 years, to:
- CUT drug-related crime and disorder
- CUT the number of families devastated by parental drug use
- INCREASE the number of drug users making a positive contribution to society
- EXPAND and improve drug treatment services
